System Down

Apparently the entire blogging system at Town Hall was down yesterday. We couldn't post anything. We apologize. I even had to "sign in" today for the first time since I started this blog.

"Dissing" Milton Friedman

A Chicago University is considering naming a "think tank" after economist Milton Friedman. That doesn't sit very well with all the liberal economists teaching there because they don't agree with his economics. They think theirs should take precedence over his, because his is the economics of the "free market" variety. Where the hell do they get the gonads to object to naming this think tank after one of the top economists in the world, just because they disagree with him? "In a letter to U. of C. President Robert Zimmer, 101 professors--about 8 percent of the university’s full-time faculty--said they feared that having a center named after the conservative, free-market economist could 'reinforce among the public a perception that the university’s faculty lacks intellectual and ideological diversity.' " "Lacks intellectual and ideological diversity?" What jerks these are! Just because he espoused "free-market economics" and they didn't? What makes them think they are more intelligent than he was? Sheesh! The ARROGANCE of these jerks! (Bank Net 360)

Violating Their "Rights"

They must have way different ideas on what constitutes "rights" in Sweden. In Stockholm, they held a children's party but didn't invite two of the students in the class. "It was supposed to be a party with balloons and a birthday cake but the eight-year-old Swedish boy had not reckoned on his country’s obsession with equality and inclusiveness. Two of his classmates were left off the invitation list – and that, deemed his school – was forbidden and a violation of their rights in the strictest “nanny state” in Europe." Seems to me the right to exclude people you don't want at your party should be YOUR OWN decision and not subject to "oversight" by school authorities. But in this "nanny state," apparently it is. This case has been made so important it has been sent to the Parliament! And this is because the kid didn't invite the son of the TEACHER to his party. Sounds a bit like jealousy, to me. Who The Hell Does He Think He Is?

"National Public Radio quoted Oak Park Village Manager Tom Barwin, an ex-police officer, observing, 'It’s just completely befuddling that our Supreme Court would be in alliance with the gangbangers.' ” That sounds like the heights of arrogance from a police politician. Policemen "one the street" are smart enough to know that "gun laws" will NEVER stop criminals from obtaining guns. They will only stop HONEST PEOPLE from having guns, and give the illegally armed criminals a steady supply of UNARMED victims. THESE are the "gangbangers" of which he speaks. Not honest Americans. It's too bad such people are allowed to make policy for REAL policemen. “ 'How sad that American citizens should argue over a fundamental civil right,” Alan Gottleib stated, “when we should all be celebrating a victory for individual liberty. Mr. Barwin’s comment reflects the view of a bitter, divisive minority of people who believe rights should be privileges, and that everyone who owns a firearm is automatically a criminal. Thankfully, such irrational thinking is far outside the American mainstream, where it belongs. ' ”  (Just common sense)
