A Bunch of Garbage

In Great Britain, the government is in charge of collecting the garbage, and they're doing a terrible job of it while treating people who leave their garbage can lids like criminalso. Typically, when government is in charge, they do a bad job, and just as typically, since they have that power, they treat people who don't obey "every regulation" like criminals. In this country, garbage collection is mainly in the hands of private enterprise (with a few exceptions) and usually gets done quietly, with little notice. But not where the government is in charge. They can't even pick it up every week there. They've recently gone to an "every-other-week" schedule, and can anybody do anything about it? No. It's "the government," you see. Oppose them and they'll give you a big fine. Do you wonder why we wanted to get out from under the "yoke" of British governance? (Common Sense)

Cops Want to ID Blogger

The chief of police in Memphis wants to know who runs a blog that has been critical if him and his department. "In what could be a landmark case of privacy and the 1st Amendment," the anonymous bloggers write on the site, "Godwin has illegally used his position and the City of Memphis as a ram to ruin the Constitution of the United States." He has a "long road" to go if he wants to force AOL to give up those names because it is a constitutional issue. "It wasn't clear if the lawsuit is aimed at shutting down the site or if it's part of an effort to stop leaks that might affect investigations." Come on! We know it was an effort to shut this blogger up. Politicians (and the police chief is certainly a politician) just don't like criticism, and some think they have the power to shut such people up. They need to be disabused of this notion. Next, he'll want to know who I am. All he has to do is ask. (Memphis Commercial Appeal)

Gore's "Nutty Idea"

His newest idea will bankrupt anyone who tries it. But he doesn't care. He's on the "receiving end" of the money spent for such things. "Gore proposed last week that the United States 'commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.' Not just all new electricity, mind you, which would be challenging enough. But all existing electricity, too." At the time, he claimed his home in Kentucky used LESS energy that others the same size, even though independent reports put his energy use at THREE TIMES that of any other residence that size. Like Bill Clinton, Al can "lie like a trooper," with a straight face, when he KNOWS his listeners know better. Al has no shame when promoting his swindle. (Vincent Carroll/Rocky Mountain News)

We're Winning, But Obama Says We're Losing

He says our strategy is "unsound." This after a one-day visit. Of course, Obama is such an expert on military strategy, he can see, in one day, what lifetime military commanders can't see after months "on the ground." What a nerd! What makes me mad is that this "empty suit" is very near being elected president of this great nation; one his wife was "never proud of" until he became a serious candidate for president. If he is elected, I'm very afraid of what's in store for us. (CNS News)
