The Constitution says the Congress “shall make NO law concerning religion or the practice thereof.” How hard is that to understand? Yet “authorities” in a Virginia jail are removing religious passages from letters written to inmates. How do they justify that? Probably by saying it is “policy,” not law. Or that the U. S. Constitution does not apply to state law, which is stupidly wrong. Each state had to pledge NOT to make a law contrary to the U. S. Constitution BEFORE being allowed into the union, so constitutional provisions DO apply. They SAY “such materials could be dangerous,” without saying HOW. I’d like to KNOW how a Bible verse could be “dangerous.” I’m not a “religious fanatic,” but I AM a fanatic about people’s RIGHTS. Even those of criminals in jail; and the right to their religion is an inalienable right. A right every person has by being BORN. A right that cannot be legally denied them by ANYBODY. Much less a bunch of overbearing local “officials.” (
